Roses Gap tickets still available!

By adam - Posted on 08 July 2009

Friday 25th September – Monday 28th September 2009

Tickets are still available for the 2009 Roses Gap/Barrigar Folk Music Camp. Held in the middle weekend of the September school holidays campers enjoy making music in the relaxed atmosphere and magical setting of the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park.

The camp offers good facilities and there are plenty of unpowered campsites and bunkhouses available. You can use the outdoor cooking and BBQ facilities, or enjoy our special on-site café. Our caterer will have meals and snacks at reasonable prices. The kiosk sells essentials like milk, bread, ice-cream etc.

Make sure you book early as numbers are limited. This year we are emailing as many application forms as possible. Let us know of any problems, and of course we will continue regular post for those without email. We will fit in all keen music-campers, up to our cut-off number. SEE YOU IN SPRING!

WORKSHOPS The following workshops will be offered and the tutors listed here have been booked for the camp.

Intermediate Fiddle- Ado Barker, Beginners’ Fiddle- Rebecca Hopkins, Intermediate Guitar- Kate Burke, Beginners’ Guitar- John Rees, Tin Whistle- Ben Stephenson, Beginners’ Tin Whistle- Dani Rocca, Irish Flute- Ben Stephenson, Singing- Jane Coker, Ukulele- Lucy Wise, Trumpet and Trombone- Sean Nihill, Indian Dancing- Andrea Makris, Gypsy Funk Youth Band- Tali White, Gypsy Road Percussion- Matt Stonehouse, Gypsy Road Epic Story- Brian Hungerford, Ensemble- Phil Carroll, Street Band- Havana Palava, Yoga- Wendy Ashton, Art - Gypsy Deco- Alice Laycock, Kids Song & Dance- Thais Sansom,

PROGRAMME The camp begins on Friday 25th September with registration from 4pm. A welcome concert featuring the camp tutors will be held in the evening. Workshops in music and dance run all day Saturday and Sunday, and you choose each session from several options. Classes are held in camp buildings, marquees, and outdoors if the weather is fine.

This year we are ambitiously telling the story of the Gypsy (Romani) migration from India to Europe and beyond. We also have a strong Celtic theme running through the weekend. Wildflower walks and childrens’ outdoor activities will be available as usual.

“The Dance” is held on the Saturday night, and the legendary final blackboard concert takes care of Sunday night. Monday is for clean up and recovery.

hi there

Suzanne and I would love to find out about coming to Roses Gap this year (2009) I play uilleann pipes and my daughters, 15 months and 6 years, are dead keen on making music among other things. Suzanne is very interested in learning more music too. We have some friends who have attended over the last few years and will be going this year. We are living in Adelaide.

Can you send us information like, are there places still available? how much does it cost? how to book and pay?

Cheers,

Giles
