Open Mic
The Geelong Folk Music Club holds an Open Mic concert night commencing 8.00pm on the second Tuesday of every month courtesy of Irish Murphys, Geelong. Admission is free.
Open mic nights are a great opportunity to perform for a warm, receptive and supportive audience, whether you are just beginning or a more seasoned performer. A PA and lighting is provided along with a sound person who will help you sound great.
Performers are limited to 10 minutes, which is usually enough for 3 songs, although it is a good idea to have an extra one ready just in case. You can just turn up on the night and put your name down, although GFMC members are given first preference.
Better yet, let Paula know using this contact form.
About 11 years ago, I decided to extend my musical performance beyond the comfort of my loungeroom and turned up at a GFMC Open Mic night. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but the sound was good and the audience and GFMC members couldn't have been more supportive. It was enough to encourage me to continue, and without that Open Mic opportunity, High & Lonesome would not have come into existence, and I wouldn't have had the wonderful musical opportunities amd freindships that have unfolded since that time.
If I can do it, so can you!
Get along soon!
