A DIARY ENTRY FOR JAZZ FANS
Jazz fans should get along to the Geelong Hotel on October 28, for an exciting and varied program organised by Gordon Institute music students.
‘Jazz az!’ will feature the vocal (Acapella) ensemble, the Gordon Big Band and a group of extremely talented young musicians, including saxophonist Jacqueline Wong, drummer Nic Doncon, keyboard player and guitarist Dave Adams, singer and guitarist Travis Brinnand and trumpeter Ben Barnett.
The program has been put together by students studying music industry skills at Gordon Institute. During this subject they learn about what goes into putting on a show, from liaising with venue owners, bookers and bands to sound production requirements for musicians and the audience, as well as publicity and promotional activities.
Teacher Robin Gador said the fact the students were also playing at the gig was a strong motivating force.
“They must transfer what they’ve studied in the classroom to a real world scenario,” he said.
“They’re learning that working in the music industry is about working alongside other professionals and businesses involved in music.”
‘Jazz az!’ will be held upstairs at the Geelong Hotel on October 28, from 5.30 to 7.30 pm. Entry is $5 which includes finge
