Blackwood perform at the 2007 Graham Squance Memorial Award
Friday October 5th, 8pm
Emerald Lounge, Clifton Hill Hotel, Queens Parade, Clifton Hill.
“Blackwood” Warm, engaging, laid-back, cosmopolitan, rhythmic, lyrical … compulsive! ‘Blackwood’ make sweet yet powerful music on harp, guitar, whistles, fiddle, mandolin, cuatro and percussion, and with well-crafted songs and fine vocal harmonies they bring you ‘a superb bunch of songs that start out somewhere deep in the wide world of tradition and end up right in the moment…talented gits’ (Enda Kenny). Kwela jive from South Africa, Venezuelan joropos, and ancient Irish harp melodies, all in the same half hour!
‘Warm and engaging, Blackwood are one of the Australian festival scene’s favourite acts’ Steve Barnes, Fairbridge Festival, WA
Gary Rose and Friends (from Gippsland)
Gary’s strong voice, fine choice of songs and superb guitar playing all come highly recommended by the regular campers at Gippsland folk gatherings. Come along and hear what all the fuss is about.
