Friends of St Brigids fundraiser makes $5000

Over 100 people joined the colourful throng of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Melbournes Celtic Club on Cup Eve to support and raise money for the Friends of St Brigids and The Lake School.

The Friends of St Brigids are raising funds so that the church and hall at Crossley, Western Victoria, which have fallen into disrepair, may be preserved for community use. They were joined by The Lake School which runs its annual summer school of celtic music song and dance in nearby Koroit. Read more »»

A Date with Destiny!

For many years Ian Date was associated with the best jazz musicians in the country including Don Burrows, James Morrison, Tom Baker and George Washingmachine. He has collaborated with some of the best guitarists in the world, recording and performing with Martin Taylor, Robin Nolan and renowned gypsy guitar legend Fapy Lafertin.

Touring Australia in November, he will be performing at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival and the Manouche Gypsy Guitar Festival, Brisbane as well as The geelong Wintergarden. Rumour has it that some of Geelongs own Hot Club Swing may be playing a few songs with the boys!!!

Port Fairy Folk Festival announces 2008 lineup!

The Port Fairy Folk Festival has announced its line-up of artists for March 2008, a taste of the 22 international acts and 100 national acts booked for the 32nd festival.

The first announcement includes international artists Guy Davis (USA), Mamadou Diabete (Mali), Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill (Ireland) Eddi Reader (Scotland) and Loudon Wainwright III (USA). Australian acts include Kasey Chambers - teaming up with her dad, Bill Chambers - Angie Hart and The Backsliders.

Registration for the first release of tickets closes on Monday, 5 November.
