New Open-Mic a success at Murphy's!!!
Neil Gamble sets the tempo on his Woodskin cajon at the August Open-Mic at Irish Murphy's
From the very first performance, the first GFMC Open-Mic at Irish Murphy's felt like a winner!
The night began with punters making their way in twos and threes into Murphy's, out of the cold winter night, and as they slowly came...they stayed. With lots of regular faces, as well as some new ones, the night kicked off a little after 8pm with Geoff & Beryl doing a few tunes to get the night going, and from then on the board was full all night. Well, the 2010 camp has come and gone. What a weekend it was! Looking forward to next year...
The Turramurra Folk Music Camp provides an annual opportunity to make music in a relaxed and friendly setting under the glorious gum trees of Victorias Otway Ranges. Here's some video of one of the ensemble pieces from last years Turramurra camp.
Turramurra is held at “Wildwood Retreat” in the Pennyroyal Valley near Dean's Marsh, Victoria. “Wildwood Retreat” is a comfortable outdoor education camp situated on Pennyroyal Creek in a secluded valley of the Otway Ranges. Workshops run by expert tutors help people of all abilities to develop their skills in the “unplugged arts”, including guitar, fiddle and whistle playing, singing, songwriting, dancing, painting and story telling. Limited supplies of instruments are usually available at the camp - harmonica/ukulele/whistle/etc There are also opportunities to play and perform in groups of all shapes and sizes, so bring along your instruments, songs and have a go! The camp starts on Friday with registration from 5pm and a Welcome Concert at 8pm. On Saturday there's a choice of workshops and an evening dance at the Dean's Marsh hall, followed by supper and jam sessions for the night owls amongst us. The workshops continue on Sunday, and in the evening, all are invited to contribute to the Main Concert which features music, storytelling, bush theatre and every imaginable form of home grown entertainment.
